Introduction
The Menlo Security Isolation Platform (MSIP) is a cloud-based service that helps keep the College safer by treating all web traffic as potentially malicious. To neutralize threats, MSIP runs a remote, isolated copy of your entire web session in the cloud. It executes all active content, such as JavaScript, in its cloud environment and then uses its proprietary technology to send clean rendering data to your browser to display. This process creates a virtual air gap that prevents malware from reaching your device.
MSIP protects both Windows and macOS devices whenever they are on the Pima Trusted Network; that is, when they are connected via:
- PCC Access Wi-Fi
- Hardwired connections
- The GlobalProtect VPN
In addition, MSIP protects Windows devices when they are off campus, such as at home or in a coffee shop.
Instructions
Logging In
Upon first use, you may be prompted to sign in using Microsoft authentication.

Enter your full email address, yourusername@pima.edu, and your MyPima password.
Changes You’ll Notice
- On Windows devices, a new icon appears in your system tray, the Menlo Security Client (MSC).
- When you are on the Pima Trusted Network, the icon appears dimmed and a Disconnected tooltip appears if you point to the icon. This is expected behavior; you are still protected.

- When you are not on the Pima Trusted Network, the MSC icon is lit, and a Connected tooltip appears if you point to the icon. This is expected behavior.

The appearance of this icon in the lower-right corner of web pages is normal and indicates that MSIP is working to protect your activity on that web page. Absence of the icon, however, does not necessarily mean you are not protected. To minimize the icon, click its down arrow.
- Document Downloads: The most noticeable change is when you download documents. Menlo first scans the document for threats. After the scan, a safe preview of the document opens in your browser. You can then choose to download a safe PDF version or the original file.
- Menlo scans the document before downloading.

- After scanning, Menlo sends a preview version of the document for display.

- You can select whether to download a safe (PDF) version or the original version by clicking the down arrow in the upper right.
