Managing Google Third-party App Connections

Introduction

This article provides instructions on how to identify and remove third-party apps and services connected to your Google account. This is useful when you notice tools like transcription services (e.g., Otter.ai, Read.AI) automatically joining your Google Meet sessions or accessing your Google data without a clear invitation. Removing these connections helps maintain privacy and control over your Google account activity.

Example: If you are seeing “Read.AI has joined the meeting” in Google Meet, this likely means the app was granted access previously (possibly when accepting a calendar invite or joining a shared meeting). Removing it from your connections list will stop it from joining future meetings automatically.

Instructions

Follow the steps below to review and remove unwanted app or service connections from your Google account:

  1. Go to https://myaccount.google.com/connections.
  2. Scroll through the list of apps and services that have access to your Google account.
  3. Click on any app or service you no longer recognize, use, or wish to remove (e.g., Read.AI).
  4. Review the details to see what access the app has (e.g., access to Google Meet, Calendar, Contacts, etc.).
  5. Click the Remove Access button.
  6. Confirm when prompted to fully disconnect the app or service.

Note: If the service returns again after removal, check any browser extensions or other tools you may have installed that could be reauthorizing the app.
