Introduction
Google Groups allow users to communicate efficiently with specific groups of people through email listservs. At Pima Community College, several listservs have been created to facilitate campus-wide communications. This article explains how to send emails to a Google Group, subscribe to a group, and unsubscribe when necessary.
Instructions
Sending an Email to Your Google Group
- Open a web browser and navigate to https://groups.google.com.
- Locate the Google Group you want to email. The group's email address is displayed beneath its name (e.g.,
groupname@pima.edu).
- Open your email using the same email account associated with your Google Group membership.
- Enter the Google Group’s email address in the "To:" field.
- Compose your message in the body of the email. No special formatting is required for the subject or body.
- Send your email. If the Google Group settings allow it, your message is delivered immediately. If it is a moderated list, your message is sent after the moderator approves it.
Relevant Pima Community College Groups
Below are the five groups (listservs) created for campus communications:
- Downtown Campus: DC-students@mail.pima.edu
- Desert Vista: DV-students@mail.pima.edu
- East Campus: EC-students@mail.pima.edu
- Northwest Campus: NW-students@mail.pima.edu
- West Campus: WC-students@mail.pima.edu
Subscribing to a Google Group via Email
- Open your email client with the email account you wish to use for the Google Group membership.
- In the "To:" field, enter the Google Group’s email address, adding
+subscribe before the @ symbol.
- Example:
groupname+subscribe@pima.edu
- Leave the subject and body blank, and then send the email.
- A confirmation email arrives in your inbox. Instead of clicking a button, reply to the email to confirm your subscription.
- After a short waiting period, the system adds your subscription if permitted by the Group settings. Otherwise, Group managers must review and approve your request.
Unsubscribing from a Google Group via Email
- Open your email client using the email account associated with your Google Group membership.
- In the "To:" field, enter the Google Group’s email address, adding
+unsubscribe before the @ symbol.
- Example:
groupname+unsubscribe@pima.edu
- Leave the subject and body blank, and then send the email.
- After a short waiting period, the system should delete your subscription from the Google Group.
