When attempting to use certain web content on Safari, including D2L content, users may encounter the following message:
"It seems your browser is blocking 3rd party session cookies required for the application. To resolve this issue, please update your settings to allow 3rd party cookies."
Solution
This article assumes your Mac OS and Safari browser are updated to the latest versions. If you experience issues, check for updates before proceeding.
Enable Third-Party Cookies in Safari
- On a Mac (using Safari)
- Open Safari.
- In the top menu, click on Safari, then select Preferences.
- Go to the Privacy tab.
- Under the Cookies and website data section, uncheck the option labeled Block all cookies.
- Ensure the option Prevent cross-site tracking is unchecked (this allows third-party cookies).
- Close the preferences window to save your settings and restart the application if necessary.
- On iOS (using Safari) Older versions
- Open the Settings app on your iPhone or iPad.
- Scroll down and tap Safari.
- Under the Privacy & Security section, toggle off Prevent Cross-Site Tracking.
- Ensure that Block All Cookies is turned off (this allows third-party cookies).
- Exit Settings; the changes will be saved automatically.
- Close and reopen the application if necessary.
- For iOS 18.3.1 (Latest version)
- Open the Settings app on your iPhone or iPad.
- Scroll down and tap Apps, then scroll down again and tap Safari.
- Under the Privacy & Security section, toggle off Prevent Cross-Site Tracking.
- To turn off Block All Cookies, scroll down and tap Advanced.
- Ensure that Block All Cookies is turned off (this allows third-party cookies).
- Exit Settings; the changes will be saved automatically.
- Close and reopen the application if necessary.
Switch to a Different Browser
- If you prefer not to change your Safari settings, you can use Chrome or Firefox, which do not have the same third-party cookie restrictions.
