File Share Mapping Guide - Windows 10

Summary

This article provides an overview of the steps required to connect to and map file shares.

Body

Many of the resources you need for work may be stored on shared file drives that require access requests and a few steps to access.
Below are the steps to access shared drives on your work computer:

Step 1: Request File Share Access
To access a shared drive, you need to request file share access to the drive you need by submitting a request here.

Step 2: Connect to the College Network
Make sure you are connected to the college network, either on-site or through the VPN.

Step 3: Map the Drive
Once you have requested file share access and are connected to the college network, you can map the drive to your work computer using the following steps:

  1. Open File Explorer by clicking on the folder in the taskbar or searching for “file explorer” in the search bar.

  2. Right-click on “This PC” in the left sidebar and select “Map network drive…” from the menu that appears.

  3. A pop-up will appear asking for the file path of the drive. Type the file path into the “Folder” text box.

  4. Select the “Drive” drop-down menu to choose the letter of the drive. You can choose any letter that doesn’t already have a file path next to it.

  5. If prompted, enter your network credentials, Pima username, and password. Check the “remember my credentials” box.

  6. If the drive has been successfully mapped, it will now open. You can also see the link to the drive in the left sidebar. Click this link in the future to open the drive again, and your computer will automatically reconnect to the drive at startup.

If you receive an error that the computer cannot connect to the network drive:

  • Check your internet connection
  • If you are on-campus, make sure you are still connected to the PCC network
  • If you are off-campus, make sure you are connected to the VPN
  • Restart the computer
  • Make sure you have been granted access to view this folder, and request file share access if not
  • Re-map the drive using the instructions above
