Introduction

This article describes the process for upgrading the operating system on your College-owned Mac computer using the Self Service application.

Process

  1. Open Self Service by doing either of the following:
    • Open the Finder, and then, in the Applications folder, locate and double-click the Self Service application.
    • Perform a spotlight search by pressing command (⌘) and the space bar, and then, in the spotlight field that appears, type Self Service and press Enter.

The Self Service window opens.

  1. On the left side, under Browse, select Featured.

  1. Depending on what operating system is compatible with your hardware, under macOS Big Sur or macOS Monterey, select Upgrade. If you aren’t sure which, check hardware requirements for macOS Big Sur or macOS Monterey. Choose macOS Monterey if your hardware is compatible with it, because it is the newer version, which gives you stronger security and the latest features.

Note  If you are upgrading macOS on a laptop, ensure the power adapter is connected to the laptop before you select Upgrade.
